Staff Report / PHXlocal.org
In 1969, astronaut Frank Borman, along with his wife and parents, was spotted at the observation deck of Terminal 2 at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Visitors to the terminal could pay 10 cents to use binocular viewing scopes, which provided a good view of flight activities, including takeoffs and landings, as well as the surrounding mountain scenery.
Frank Borman was an accomplished individual, serving as a colonel in the United States Air Force, an aeronautical engineer, a NASA astronaut, a test pilot, and a businessman. He is best known for commanding the Apollo 8 mission, which became the first to orbit the Moon.
