Dry Conditions Persist, Limited Rainfall for Upstate NY

The National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY, reports that abnormally dry weather will continue in much of Western and North-Central New York. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the region Tuesday night through Wednesday. However, the areas receiving beneficial rainfall are expected to be limited, and widespread relief from very dry soil conditions is unlikely.

Rainfall probabilities over the next two days vary by location. For example, Gouverneur and Watertown each have a 20% chance, while Oswego has an 18% chance. Other locations include Camden (32%), Utica (24%), Hamilton (34%), and Rochester (18%). Additional percentages given include Geneseo at 25%, Syracuse at 21%, Ithaca at 22%, Elmira at 18%, Oneonta at 22%, and Binghamton at 24%. Mansfield is at 21% and Erie at 20%, with Edinboro also at 20%. Jamestown is at 19% and Dunkirk at 24%. Buffalo and Niagara Falls both have a 22% chance, Hornell is at 21%, and Olean is at 23%. Warren is at 20%, Port A. at 42%, Grovers A. at 50%, and Meadyville at 38%.

This forecast was current as of 8 a.m. EDT on Thursday, August 14, 2025, with the information issued at 3 p.m. EDT on Monday, August 11, 2025.
