The University of Chicago posted a social media update sharing summer reading recommendations from its 2026 teaching award winners.
According to the post, the recommended books include “mind-bending science fiction” as well as “timeless classics.” The post directs readers to an online list of the recommendations.

Bend-La Pine Schools says the Education Center will stay open during summer. Summer hours begin Monday, June 22, running Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

City of Bend Marks 100 Years With Water Tips
The City of Bend urged residents to conserve water by checking sprinkler settings and reducing watering time by 2 minutes a day. It also invited residents to submit photos of their at-home water-saving efforts for a chance to win prizes.

Wilson Avenue Closed as Train Warning Upgrades Delayed
Wilson Avenue is closed between SE Centennial Street and SE 9th Street due to a delay in work on warning signals and gate arms. City of Bend says signals and gate arms are out of service and the crossing is not safe to enter.

Fayetteville Fire attends water rescue conference
Several members of the Fayetteville Fire Department are attending the North American Water Rescue Conference in South Bend, Indiana. The department said the training will help them work with water rescue teams and return the skills to serve Fayetteville and the North Carolina Rescue Task Force.
