ICO to Premiere Stacy Garrop's CHROMA
The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (ICO) will premiere a brand new work by living composer Stacy Garrop this Saturday, March 21. The piece, titled CHROMA, is inspired by the histories of colors—from saffron to Scheele’s Green to cerulean blue—and how they connect to music.
Garrop is an award-winning composer based in Chicago. Her catalog includes orchestral, operatic, choral, and chamber works, with recent commissions from the Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Chicago Symphony Orchestras. Her music has been performed by the Kronos Quartet, Chanticleer, and the U.S. Navy and Marine Bands, and recorded on Cedille Records and other labels. Garrop has received an Arts and Letters Award in Music and grants from the Fromm and Barlow Foundations. A former faculty member at Roosevelt University, she has held residencies with the Chicago Opera Theater and other organizations, and remains active as a mentor and guest composer at festivals and universities across the United States.
Get tickets here: https://www.icomusic.org/concerts/gardens-of-spain/ or call 317-940-9607. Students and children are free with reservation. The event will be held at Butler Arts & Events Center.
