Buffalo Breakfast Event Promotes Local, Healthy Recipes

Nearly 500 students and family members attended a free breakfast event at one of Buffalo Public Schools' Saturday Academies on a snowy February morning. In addition to breakfast, attendees were provided with free, fresh, local ingredients and instructions on how to use and prepare them in nutritious recipes. The event was facilitated by Cornell Cooperative Extension's Harvest New York program.

Xyricka Ferry, SNAP-Ed program manager for Erie County, said the goal of the event was to showcase healthy, low-cost, easy-to-make recipes while highlighting the foods that would be distributed. Nutritional educators, including Ferry, work with local families twice a month in Buffalo schools and support connection with local food producers.
