The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its Marine Unit is the only 24-hour unit operating on the water.

In the agency’s post, the Sheriff’s Office described Marine Unit work that includes patrolling restricted areas of the Port of Tampa and assisting stranded boaters.

The post said summer evenings often bring crowded waterways, afternoon storms, and limited visibility, along with an increase in calls for service. It also advised people to be prepared with proper safety equipment and to know the forecast so they and their passengers stay safe.
