Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Northeast Pennsylvania

The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for areas in central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, including Lackawanna County.

The warning was issued at 751 PM EDT Thursday, June 11, 2026, and is scheduled to last until 845 PM EDT.

The warning covers south central Otsego County, southeastern Broome County, Delaware County, western Sullivan County, eastern Susquehanna County, Lackawanna County, Wayne County, Luzerne County, western Pike County, and Wyoming County.

At 751 PM EDT, the storms were located along a line running from near Oneonta to near Deposit to near Thompson to Moosic to near Huntington Mills, moving east at 40 mph.

The NWS listed hazards including 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail, with radar indicating the hail threat. The agency said hail damage to vehicles is expected and that wind damage is expected to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations mentioned as being impacted include Rockland, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Falls, Hazleton, Muhlenberg, Dunmore, Oneonta, Kingston, and Nanticoke. The NWS also listed a maximum hail size of 1.00 inch and a maximum wind gust of 60 mph.

The NWS said large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud-to-ground lightning are occurring with these storms and advised people to move indoors immediately. It also warned that heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding and said people should not drive through flooded roadways.

Precaution recommendation: move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
