Duke Energy Announces Emergency Tone Alert Test

Duke Energy will conduct a tone alert test at the Harris Nuclear Power Plant on Wednesday, November 13, at 6 p.m. This test is in cooperation with the U.S. National Weather Service in Raleigh, North Carolina. It will be broadcasted to weather radios in Wake County, Chatham County, Lee County, and Harnett County.

The purpose of the test is to ensure that residents are promptly notified in the unlikely event of an emergency at the nuclear plant. During the test, weather radios will emit a tone followed by a test message or will display a test message along with a warning light. No action is required from the public during this time.
