Winter Weather Advisory Expands in Northeast PA
A winter weather advisory has been expanded for parts of Northeast Pennsylvania. Periods of light to occasionally moderate snow are expected today, mainly east of Interstate 81. Additional snow showers may occur later this afternoon and into the evening.
PennDOT has taken precautionary measures by temporarily reducing the speed limit to 45 mph and imposing lane restrictions for commercial vehicles. These measures are in effect on several interstates:
• Interstate 80 in Luzerne County.
• Interstate 81 in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Susquehanna counties.
• Interstate 84 in Lackawanna, Pike, and Wayne counties.
• Interstate 380 in Lackawanna, Pike, and Wayne counties.
The snowfall is anticipated to be heavier in areas where southerly winds push moisture into higher terrain, such as Oneida County, the Catskills, and the Poconos. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Oneida County until 1 AM EST Sunday and for most of northeast Pennsylvania and Sullivan/Delaware County in New York until 4 PM today.
Travel conditions may be hazardous due to slippery roads. Motorists are encouraged to check route conditions at 511PA by visiting www.511PA.com or by downloading the 511PA app.
