**Broome County Emergency Services Shares Tips for Staying Safe During Bitter Cold**

Binghamton, NY – Broome County Emergency Services (BCOES) has issued a list of important safety tips to help residents stay prepared and protected during the extreme cold conditions expected this week. The advice emphasizes staying warm and taking proper precautions to avoid cold-related health risks.

Here are the key safety tips provided:

- **Dress in Layers:** Wear loose-fitting, warm, and water-repellent clothing to maximize insulation.

- **Protect Your Head:** Don’t forget to wear a hat. Approximately 40% of body heat can be lost through the head.

- **Use Tight-Fitting Mittens:** Opt for tight-fitting mittens instead of gloves to better retain warmth for your hands.

BCOES urges everyone in the region to "be prepared and stay warm" as the harsh weather approaches. For more updates, follow #BCOES and practice the recommended safety measures to ensure everyone’s well-being during these challenging cold conditions.
