Phoenix Zoo Mourns Loss of Beloved Lion Boboo

Reviewed by Valencia Perez / PHXlocal.org

An eight-year-old African male lion named Boboo from the Phoenix Zoo was euthanized due to an aggressive form of cancer affecting both kidneys and the spleen. Despite showing no signs of illness during a recent exam, the cancer progressed rapidly. Boboo arrived at the Phoenix Zoo from the Columbus Zoo in 2019, where he was beloved by keepers, staff, and guests.

While the loss of Boboo has saddened many, there is also cause for joy as Zuri, another lion at the zoo, and her two cubs are thriving. Zuri has been an exceptional first-time mother, and the cubs are growing well beyond expectations. Boboo's genes will live on through his offspring, as this was the first litter sired by him. The zoo is grateful that Boboo became a part of his own pride before his passing, ensuring that his legacy will continue through his cubs.
