Today, Utica University is celebrating Juneteenth, which is the third year in a row that it has been recognized as a federal holiday in the United States. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, or America's second Independence Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the country after the Civil War. This day is a time to reflect on freedom and celebrate the end of an era in American history. Juneteenth is a time for unity and remembrance of the struggles and triumphs of the past.
